Palazzo Corsini Gallery

Palazzo Corsini National Gallery of Ancient Art was our main destination today. It is only part of the collection, the other being housed in Palazzo Barberini. The palazzo was built in the 15th century. We saw eight rooms of paintings, sculpture and furniture mainly from the 1600 - 1700s, the major works being those of Caravaggio, Rubens, Van Dyck and Giordano. The gardens of the palace now form the Botanic Gardens and are in the care of the University of Rome. It is holiday time and unfortunately the gardens were closed.

As we were having our daily gelati a woman came along, looked aghast and indicated if she could take our photo. Having taken our photo she smiled and said 'grathias'.
That reminded us that this was a selfie opportunity. For the record, mine is white chocolate and salted caramel, Kel's is chocolate and hazelnut.

We rambled all over the place this afternoon finding bits of ancient ruins, tiny churches still very much in use, a cream oleander that will be perfect for a change in our garden, an outdoor theatre on an island in the Tiber, two Queenslanders looking for gardens and a Labrador being taught the word 'basta' - 'enough'
