Lago Trasimeno

This morning it was cloudy and there were a few spits of rain so we decided to drive around Lake Trasimeno. From the walls of Panicale we have a magnificent view of Lago Trasimeno which is the fourth largest lake in Italy. It has a surface area of 128 km. square but is quite shallow. There are three islands in the lake.
It is probably most well known for being where Hannibal defeated the Romans in 217 BC.

The Fiat Punto diesel is perfect for our needs - economical and easy to park. We drove right around the lake watching storms happening everywhere but where we were. Umbria and Tuscany can produce some spectacular storms.

This sign is outside our gate and is a good example of the number of events happening in our immediate neighbourhood. There is a Festa happening in the sports ground below the walls tonight with food, music and dancing.

Our evening entertainment was a walk around the wall looking at the lights around the lake and on other hilltop villages.
