Out and about in Malta

Today we did an on-off bus trip into the country so that we could see more of Malta in our brief time here. First stop was Mdina which was the capital city until the Knights of St. John arrived. They liked to be beside the sea so they moved their base to present day Valletta.

                                                   The Mdina Gate

                                                            Typical street scene.

Mdina as seen from a distance.

Next stop was Rabat where we visited the Catacombs of St. Paul and the dug out rooms that were used during the war to house families.

St. Paul was kept in these natural caves when he was shipwrecked on Malta.

The catacombs were burial places and this example has many different styles.

Marsaxlokk is an attractive fishing village.
