Glorious Glitz

Everyone agrees that the Baroque style of church architecture and decoration is over-the-top and Rome has a lot of Baroque! Today we spent two hours at the amazing Chiesa del Gesù and the connected Ignatius of Loyola Rooms. The Gesù is a massive church  with marble, paintings and frescoes to satisfy any student of art, history or religion.

In the Ignatius of Loyola Rooms we saw a collection of his works and simple possessions in the rooms where he lived the last twelve years of his saintly life.

It is not just the churches which have that extra bit of bling. The Vittorio Emanuele II  Monument is affectionately known as the wedding cake but is actually the war memorial.

At one stage today Kel spread out his map, indicated with his left hand and said "We are somewhere here"
