I didn't post yesterday because a heavy thunderstorm was promised for the late afternoon when we planned to go to Città della Pieve for their Palio parade, so we didn't go . A wise decision as it turned out as we had heavy rain, wind and big hail stones.
So today I am doing a second post showing some of the arty decorations seen around Cortona today.
In the small piazza in front of the Duomo we saw this new addition since our last visit there.
'The Tree of Life' is a bronze sculpture by local artist Andrea Roggi. The trunk of the tree is formed from male and female torsoes which meld into the trunk, and as the upward arms branch out they turn into a beautifully crafted olive tree. The bronzed trunk gives way to copper green coloured leaves, the pruned branches are colour defined and the olive fruit are gold.
The light was fading, but not enough for the flash to operate, so these are not the clearest photos. Believe me, this is a stunning work of art and is a fine addition to the tree of life genre.
You have such an eye...always stunning pictures!
