I went to Mass at The Church of San Ginés.
We then had brunch at the Mercado de San Miguel. This is the most brilliant place for tapas.
I chose bacalao (salted cod) with olive paste and bacalao mousse with caviar. Kel chose the cod with honey and mustard and smoked salmon with dill. A little baklava was a nice finishing touch.
A Madrid tradition is to walk the huge El Rastro Flea Market then follow up with a vermouth. We did the market but not the vermouth.
From there we did a long route march to the Parque del Buon Retiro. Sadly I didn't have my step counter on as it seems to have jet lag, but it was a long, hot walk.
The Crystal Palace is beautiful but no longer holds plants. There was an exhibition of modern glass art.
The park lands are extremely well used and well respected, row boats were popular on the lake and the parterre garden was very impressive. The shaped trees in the photos are cypress and the yellow looking ones are photinia. Who would ever have thought!
Siesta and time to use the washer/dryer before we move on, time to catch up on journals and the blog and then as typical people of Madrid, we went out for dinner at 10 pm.
A pitcher of sangria...
Crispy shrimp and salmon & brie toasts ...
Another delightful day.
Loving your pictures - I feel like we are traveling with you.
