To Oristano by train

Today we took a train trip to Oristano on the west coast of Sardinia. The main reason was to see some of the inland country. The train windows were so dirty I couldn't take photos but it was quite dry farming land. Initially melons and artichokes were growing sparcely then further away from Cagliari corn was growing with the aid of irrigation pipes and sprays.

Oristano is a flat town as it is almost at sea level so the walking was easy. We enjoyed our few hours wandering this very nice town. As always the historic centre provided many points of interest - a Duomo and other churches and a defence  tower that is now in the centre of town dating from 1290 and attractive streetscapes.

La Pausa time in Oristano.

Piazza Eleonora was almost picture perfect. Named after Eleonora d' Arborea, the most significant female in Italian history. She has inspired people by her life and works and is compared with Joan of Arc. She was a most powerful and significant judge and legistated especially on women's issues in the 1300s.

What more could I want?
