Elvis in the Piazza

It was a huge night in Panicale's Piazza Umberto I with the band King's Cafe performing Elvis songs. Luckily no white jump suits and sequins, just hours of Elvis songs. The enormous crowd had the restaurants and bars running at top speed and many people danced on the cobbles to the familiar beat. The market stalls were still open after 11pm and as the temperature was 26C no one was in a hurry to go home.

It was good to catch up with friends David and Dianne from Scotland before they head back home.

The institution that is The Piazza in Italy is something to behold. Technically and historically it is the centre of civic, political and religious life but it is more than that. The heartbeat of the village, the source of entertainment, friendship, refreshment and what makes the Italian people who they are.

'Ci si vede in piazza!' ..... ' See you in the piazza!'
