The 15th August is Ferragosta in Italy, a major holiday for the Italian people. Traditionally it celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary but it also marks the beginning of the holiday season when many people close their businesses and go to the sea or the mountains for up to a month. The roads are extremely busy at Ferragosta as families head away from the cities for their summer holidays.
Ferragosta in Panicale was quiet with a well attended Mass in the morning and, around Villa Adriana, the sounds of families enjoying a big lunch together.
