Naples - always something happening

A day of rest and relaxation today, the morning mainly taken up with the Blog. It seems there is no easy way to deal with photos and it is always time consuming. This year I decided to use only the mobile phone for photos and reduce the stress of transferring photos from the camera memory card to the tablet. I have not been at all happy with the phone as camera concept, for many reasons, and I won't be  using it again. Unless I get a new and better phone, and study how it works.  If only the Nikon SLR digital wasn't so large and heavy.

We wandered up to via Casanova, the area we stayed in last year, and had to have a real lemon granita. So good, if you love lemons. Kel doesn't so he had a black cherry one. We did notice that their cost has gone up from 1 euro to1.5 euros.

I have mentioned the hyperactive nature of life in Naples. As we sit at our balcony windows there is so much noise - cars and motor scooters, people talking in the streets, children playing, dogs barking, jets going overhead very regularly, the ambulance exiting the depot and answering calls, banging of all sorts (especially heavy front doors), tooting, screeching brakes, whistles and fireworks. It is, combined, a comforting sound but remove the little yapping dog and it would be a contented buzz of a city that is full of life.

Fun fact: Naples has a population of 3.115 million in its metropolitan area, almost 1 million in its city centre. A density of 7,800 per square kilometre. I think it is allowed to be noisy and very busy.

On Thursday the Freccia Tricolori flew over Naples, part of their 100th anniversary celebrations. Throughout the year they are flying over the capital of each region as a thank you to the people who have supported the Armed Forces. Due to the time it takes to get the phone open to camera, this is obviously not my photo. But it is what we saw fly over us when we were at the market.
