Day 7 - Gracciano to Monteriggioni

Another perfect day for walking and only 11 kms to our hotel, however we extended that by going on to the hilltop fortified village of Monteriggioni and then back-tracking to Il Piccolo Castello Hotel. So, 13 kms for the day.

You are never really lost, just taking another route or even just following the signs and the well worn track.

A bit of stretching is good!

Now here is another good idea! Maybe not as creative as drums turned into dragonflies or gas bottles into minions but they look safe and waterproof.

Our first view of Monteriggioni, such a perfect construction.

Our English friends caught up to us, offered to take a photo and continued on.

As we started the climb to the hilltop we discovered that the entrance gate and tower are under scaffolding. How very European.

In Monteriggioni we got our passports stamped then headed to one of the several bars. They do a good trade in bottled water!  We followed our drinks with gelato, then said hello again to our friends who were eating pasta, visited the church which was selling pilgrim souvenirs and returned back down the hill.

It was little more than a kilometre to Il Piccolo Castello, our hotel for the night. Once again we chose to eat in-house and were delighted with the food. My square spaghetti with a baccalà (salted cod) and tomato sauce was tasty with delicious subtleties and the almond semifreddo perfect to finish with.

From the front of the desserts menu: ' Non c'è amore più sincero di quello per i dolci.'

There is no love more sincere than sweets.
