Kalgoorlie to Norseman, Western Australia

On the road again ... and the vegetation was ever changing.

Kambalda is a small community only 60 kms from Kalgoorlie; well equipped with sporting facilities but having a real feel of fading away. Mining was a tough business and Kambalda also has a memorial to the miners who have perished at work.

We only had a short drive today because we needed to approach our Nullarbor crossing with suitable daily distances travelled. We arrived in Norseman early in the afternoon so were able to look around before setting up camp.

The Beacon Hill Nature Walk was another opportunity to look and photograph the flora.

Norseman is a small mining town with a huge tailings dump. Quite a sad looking place.

Norseman is named after a horse who first found gold there. He was tied to a tree for the night and apparently scraped it up in his hoof.

Norseman also honours the camels and cameleers who played an important role in the town's history.

After an over-night stop at Norseman we were ready to start our Crossing of the Nullarbor Plain.
