A quiet day at home in Panicale

A quiet day in Panicale. Early this morning Kelly went to the panifico (bakery) and bought some fresh bread which I made into a picnic using porchetta (roast pork) which we bought in Pienza yesterday.

Even when you are on holidays you still need to do some chores. Italy has a very good method of coping with rubbish and recycling and Panicale is part of that plan. I thought I would show you how the system works. Each day you buy your bread, fruit & vegetables and meat for the day. In the same way, each day you take your garbage and recycling to one of two locations around the village and put it on the appropriate receptacle.

We walked up through the olive groves to the old cemetery / sanctuary where we enjoyed our picnic, the amazing valley views and the cooling breeze on our 29 degree day. We collected a few figs and more chestnuts to add to our collection. Soon we will have enough to roast.

Drinks at Bar Gallo tonight. There is always an interesting collection of people in the piazza, tonight a wedding group of six people drinking Prosecco by the fountain.

The bocce pitch is just across the road from Il Roseto and almost every evening the men come for some serious competition.

Super moon, super day!
